Obesity paradox: A simple understanding of complex syndrome

Suzan Nashashibi RNutr-Silhouette Slimming Centre Amman-Jordan

Objective : to provide an insight for professionals working in obesity management with a deep rooted historical reflections on Obesity Etiology and development through time until this date based on my 15years +experience with obese patients to enable them to better appreciate and understand this complex syndrome to optimize obesity management success rates

Methods A complete run down from the creation of mankind when Adam And Eve got thrown out of heaven due to committing the original sin of eating what they were warned not to –being in my modest opinion what obesity is all about –giving in to weaknesses –and how factors exacerbated this weakness mainly sedentary replacing previously physically active lifestyles ,food processing replacing natural foods grown and harvested personally-Television viewing crippling our minds and downgrading our interests to silly follow up of actors lives-Junk foods delivered to our doorstep –eating late through the night while working on our computers-in a sentence our environment became Obesogenic-toxic

As a direct result lipid profile abnormalities caused a surge in incidence of cardiovascular disease diabetes, hypertension, infertility and a variety of inflammatory related diseases

The solution came superficial in the form of quick fix diets which complicated obesity further and other metabolic factors contributed to skyrocketing of obesity rates worldwide like Insulin resistance and metabolic syndrome which were of course ignored by commercial diets Results Obesity progressed and human beings were getting bigger in size –our obesogenic environment was working overtime contributing to more and more joining the obese force wrong handling by starvation plans and dangerous medications relapsed all efforts of progress and the obese became eating disordered obese

Conclusion Obesity a disorder born out of a simple and basic weakness to craving, nurtured by an obesogenic toxic environment, exacerbated by decrease of physical activity and change into sedentary lifestyles and of course complicated further by some ignored physiological and psychological factors need time and not a rush –a sound medical knowledge - full appreciation of its complexity and most of all patience by sufferers and professionals dealing with them alike

That is my message to professional in obesity management

To those suffering I say Commercial diets promise you paradise but take you to hell
