Aim. To distinguish
physiologic responses to life events
from a disorder by
chronobiologically interpreted
C-ABPM, using the sphygmochron, a
monitoring profile over time with a
computer comparison by reference to
data from clinically healthy gender-
and age-matched peers.
Background. A
series of consensus meetings
suggested that the cuff in the care
provider's office is best replaced
by a C-ABPM at home (1, 2), if a
number of VVDs are not to be missed
in a likely considerable fraction of
the population of people already
recognized to have high blood
pressure, whether or not they are
treated for this condition which is
but one of several VVDs.
Results. Results
from self-monitoring by a 43-year
old woman based on a 6-day profile
are summarized in the sphygmochron
of Figure 1 (top), showing in bold
the diagnosis of a blood pressure
overswing. Continued monitoring was
indicated and revealed, by a
sequential test (3), the transient
nature of the condition, as
summarized in Figure 2 (bottom).
Discussion and Conclusion.
Continued monitoring for strain
assessment is indicated for everyone
in order to "Know thyself", likes
and dislikes, as well as to
ascertain that VVAs are not treated
as VVDs.
